Today in rural areas, women use old clothes during menstruation because they do not know that there is a fear of infection from clothes. During menstruation we should use sanitary pads and one pad should be used only for 5 to 6 hours. There is a risk of infection by using the same pad for a long period, hence pads should be changed every 5 hours. Although one should always take care of one’s cleanliness, one should take more care of cleanliness during menstruation because at this time there is a fear of growth of bacteria due to bleeding as well as foul smell, hence after some time wash the body with water.

Nowadays, many small organizations like Anganwadi, Sewing Center etc. are educating women about menstruation, so that women and girls can talk openly about menstruation and express their problems openly because women were the first to menstruate. She was hesitant to talk about religion and whatever problem she had, she did not tell anyone about it and started treating it herself, due to which she started having problems like infection, burning sensation, stomach ache.

But today women are being made aware that they should wear clean garments during this period and they should wear cotton clothes during menstruation because cotton cloth is soft and does not cause irritation in the legs or private parts. Take full care of your diet during menstruation because during this period many women and girls complain of loss of appetite and do not pay proper attention to their diet. Due to which they suffer from complaints like weakness, dizziness, fatigue and lethargy. But women need nutritious food during this period.

Green vegetables, milk, fruits etc. should be consumed in abundance and you can also do some light exercise and yoga because exercising gives mental and physical strength, or you can go for a walk anytime in the morning or evening. You will be happy and relaxed in the outside environment, rather than keeping yourself imprisoned at home for 5 to 7 days. Women and girls are being made aware about this. If symptoms like excessive bleeding, stomach cramps and foul smell appear during menstruation, then you should consult a doctor.

To maintain menstrual hygiene, you have to make sure that you change your sanitary pad after 5-6 hours because if you keep a wet pad in place for a long time, you are at risk of infection.
