Clarification Meaning
The word clarification refers to the action and effect of the verb to clarify, etymologically derived from the Latin “acclarāre” with the meaning of giving something greater illumination, transparency, cleanliness, and less tint. In the latter case, lightening a color means making it paler. Examples include “you have lightened the tone of your hair, now you are blonder” or “to achieve the lightening of this paint you must add more white.”
It is said that the sky has cleared when the clouds dissipate and the firmament can be fully appreciated.
At the level of ideas, clarifications serve to help others understand them, expanding on the concepts expressed, explaining them with more colloquial, simple words, or dispelling doubts that could lead to confusion. Examples: “the politician made a clarification on what he expressed this morning in a radio interview, assuring that the tax increase he referred to as possible application during his administration will be gradual, progressive and of little impact on the economy of workers.”
Clarification is therefore a means of achieving a greater understanding of someone’s statements, and many times this is achieved by using examples: “the professor explained a very difficult topic, but thanks to the examples he achieved the clarification we needed.”
The dictionary is a great source of clarification of doubts that arise about the meaning of words.
Sometimes, clarifications serve to expand on the information presented, in order to avoid the lack of certain information causing misunderstandings: “I will come to your house tomorrow, but I will make the following clarification: if I have to work tomorrow, I will visit you another day.” Sometimes, clarifications are placed in the writings, in a footnote.
