Cernevit: Benefits, Dosage and How to Use Cernevit?

Cernevit

Cernevit is a pharmaceutical product that is included in the category of vitamins, minerals, and nutritional supplements.

Cernevit is a sterile lyophilized powder containing water and fat-soluble vitamins (except Vitamin K) combined with mixed micelles (glycolic acid and lecithin).

The stability of cernevit is carefully maintained and regulated by using a precise mixture of various solvents.

As a multivitamin supplement, Cernevit is adjusted to the body’s daily needs and is generally given through injection or infusion directly into the blood vessels (intravenously).

This product is presented in a single-dose amber glass vial intended for intravenous infusion after reconstitution and further dilution. In other words, this is a vitamin booster infusion product.

Cernevit is manufactured by the renowned pharmaceutical company Baxter. Baxter is widely known in the pharmaceutical industry for its strong reputation in producing good quality products to meet global medical needs.

Benefits of Cernevit

Cernevit is given as a daily multivitamin supplement to adult patients and children aged 11 years and over who receive nutrition through fluids injected directly into the blood vessels (parenteral).

In addition, cernevit is also given to patients undergoing intravenous therapy, such as post-surgery, extensive burns, fractures, and infections.

This means that if nutritional needs cannot be met through food consumption, patients need cernevit multivitamin supplements.

The composition of this multivitamin booster infusion includes 9 types of water-soluble vitamins (such as vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7 or biotin, B9 or folic acid, B12, and vitamin C) as well as 3 types of fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins A, D, and E.

These vitamins, which are water and fat-soluble, are combined with mixed micelles (glycolic acid and lecithin).

The additional use of glycolic acid and lecithin aims to accelerate the process of reconstitution or dissolution of multivitamins in the digestive system.

Vitamin K is not included in the cernevit formulation to avoid interactions with anticoagulant drugs, so patients undergoing anticoagulant therapy can still receive this supplement.

If the patient requires additional vitamin K therapy, this vitamin can be given separately from the multivitamin.

The purpose of administering multivitamins is to ensure that patients receive sufficient vitamin intake if they are unable to meet their daily needs due to trauma, surgery, or other conditions that slow down the healing process.

Cernevit Dosage

It is recommended that the dose of cernevit be given to adults and children aged 11 years and above in the form of one vial with a volume of 5 mL every day.

This dosage must be administered by a doctor or nurse because it is done through intravenous infusion, ensuring proper administration and the necessary medical supervision during the administration process.

How to Use Cernevit

As a vitamin booster infusion, the solution produced from cernevit is given through intravenous injection at a slow rate, for at least 10 minutes, or through infusion in 0.9% NaCl solution or glucose solution. This multivitamin can also be included in parenteral nutrition mixtures.

Cernevit multivitamin powder can be reconstituted with 5 mL of water for injection, 0.9% NaCl solution, glucose solution, or nutrient mixture before parenteral administration. When reconstituted with water for injection, the pH of the solution is approximately 5.9.

It is important to note that the minimum age limit allowed to receive this vitamin booster infusion is 12 years.

Currently, there are no studies showing the safety of using this multivitamin in children 11 years of age or younger.

However, in certain circumstances when supplementation is essential for children aged 11 years or younger, with careful consideration of the benefits and risks and under close medical supervision, supplementation may be given at a dose of 0.8 mL per kilogram of body weight per day. Note that the maximum dose does not exceed half a vial per day.

Caution on Use of Cernevit

It is important to inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, both herbal and chemical.

Cernevit should be used according to the instructions of a doctor or competent health professional. The dosage and method of use must be appropriate to the patient’s condition and needs.

Administration of cernevit, especially through intravenous infusion, should be done under careful medical supervision. This is important to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the use of this supplement.

The use of cernevit in children, especially those under 12 years of age, should be done with great care and in accordance with a doctor’s recommendations.

Further safety studies may be needed for younger pediatric populations.

Cernevit Side Effects

Common side effects associated with the use of cernevit include several conditions to watch out for.

Some of these are allergic reactions that can be characterized by the appearance of rashes, itching, difficulty breathing, a feeling of tightness in the chest, swelling in the mouth, face, lips, or tongue, and a feeling of numbness or tingling on the skin.

In addition, some patients may also experience diarrhea, nausea, or stomach ache as side effects that may arise after using cernevit.

It is important to pay attention to these symptoms and consult a doctor promptly if any suspicious or disturbing side effects occur.

Cernevit Interactions

Drug interactions may affect the effectiveness of Cernevit, or even increase the risk of unwanted side effects.

Be sure to tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, prescription medications, and herbal products.

Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine without your doctor’s approval.

The dose of cernevit may be affected by the presence of folic acid, as in the case of phenytoin use, so careful monitoring of such interactions is necessary.

Folic acid has the ability to reverse some of the symptoms of pernicious anemia, while pyridoxine may reduce the effectiveness of levodopa.

In addition, some types of antibiotics may also be affected by multivitamin use.

Cernevit Contraindications

Cernevit should not be used by individuals who have a history of allergies to this drug.

Its use should also be avoided in patients who show indications of hypersensitivity to the composition of cernevit.

This action is important to reduce the risk of allergic reactions or unwanted side effects.

If you need further consultation regarding the use of Cernevit or experience side effects after consuming it, it is recommended to contact a doctor.
