Breast Treatment Benefits, Procedure, Purpose & Treatment

Breast Treatment

Breast treatment is a treatment that can be done surgically or non-surgically, which aims to improve the appearance of the breasts.

There are three general categories of breast treatment that can be performed on the breasts, including:

  • Breast enlargement

Breast augmentation ( augmentation mammoplasty ) is a surgical procedure performed to improve the appearance, size, and contour of a woman’s breasts.

  • Breast reduction

This breast treatment is often used by women who have large and heavy breasts. This surgical procedure is done by removing excess skin, fat, and breast tissue.

  • Breast reconstruction

Breast reconstruction surgery is often performed on women who have had a mastectomy (breast removal surgery), as a treatment for breast cancer.

In addition to the three common breast treatment categories above, there is also a breast lift. This procedure can be done by women who have sagging breasts, due to the skin not being strong or tough enough to support the weight of the breasts. In a condition called ptosis, there is too much skin compared to breast tissue. A breast lift is done by removing excess skin.

Benefits of Breast Treatment

Here are some of the benefits of breast treatment :

  • Beautify the shape of the breasts

Breast treatment can fix breast problems that are felt to be disproportionate, such as too small, too big, sagging, and others can be fixed. That way, the shape of the breast becomes beautiful which will increase women’s confidence.

  • Make body size more proportional

Women who have large hips and small breasts may feel that their bodies look unbalanced. Likewise with women who are small in stature but have large breasts. Well, by undergoing breast treatment, the overall appearance of the body will be more balanced and symmetrical.

  • Allows for a more active lifestyle

Women with large breasts may find it difficult to lead an active lifestyle. One of the biggest benefits of breast reduction surgery is that it helps women exercise well.

  • Easy to choose clothes

Disproportionate breast size also often makes it difficult for women to choose the right clothes. By undergoing breast treatment, women can have more clothing choices and be more confident in trying various clothing models.

Breast Treatment Goals

One of the main goals of breast treatment is to increase women’s self-confidence. For example, for some women who are not confident because they have small breasts, breast augmentation can be a breast treatment that is done to beautify the breasts.

Likewise, for women who have asymmetrical breasts, they can consider breast augmentation. While for pregnant women who experience changes in the shape of their breasts, such as sagging breasts, doing a breast lift can be a solution to restore self-confidence.

In the case of women who have lost a breast due to mastectomy, breast reconstruction can restore their confidence as a woman.

In addition to beauty, breast treatment is sometimes also done for health reasons. In women who have large breasts, for example. They can experience a number of significant discomforts, such as neck pain, back pain, and numbness or weakness due to heavy breasts. Therefore, breast reduction surgery can be done to overcome these health problems.

When Should You Do Breast Treatment?

When the size and shape of your breasts have affected your daily life, such as significantly reducing your self-confidence or causing disturbing health complaints, that is the right time to have breast treatment.

Breast Treatment Procedure

The following is the breast treatment procedure :

  • Breast Enlargement

Breast augmentation is done by placing implants under the chest muscle or above the chest muscle. First, the surgeon will make an incision that can be done in the armpit, areola (the area around the nipple), or the lower breast crease. Then, the implant will be placed in the place that has been determined by the doctor and the patient beforehand.

Breast implants are made of a silicone shell filled with saline (salt water solution) or silicone gel. Women determine the desired size by having a trial implant placed.

Once the implants are placed, the doctor will stitch the incisions and cover them with bandages. Breast augmentation surgery takes about 60-90 minutes.

  • Breast Reduction

Breast reduction procedures are performed under general anesthesia. This means that the patient will be asleep during the surgery. First, the doctor will move the nipple to its new position, then excess fat, glandular tissue and skin will be removed from the breast. After that, the doctor will reshape the remaining breast tissue. Breast reduction surgery takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the amount of breast reduction.

  • Breast Reconstruction

This procedure recreates the breast with the desired appearance, contour, and volume. The nipple and areola are also recreated.

The appearance, contour, and volume of the breast can be recreated with implants or with the woman’s own tissue. If implants are used, they are sized to match the opposite breast. If possible, the implants are placed under the pectoral muscle. Breasts can also be recreated using the woman’s own tissue.

Occasionally, a segment of the lower abdominal wall may be used. Other tissue options for breast reconstruction include back muscle and skin or fat and muscle from the buttocks. Sometimes surgery on the opposite normal breast is necessary, to create symmetry with the newly reconstructed breast.

  • Breast Lift

This breast treatment is done by removing excess skin. First, the doctor will make an incision that can be done around the areola, or extending down from the areola to the breast crease. Then, he will remove excess breast skin and shift the nipple to a higher position. After that, the doctor will close the incision with stitches, surgical tape, or skin adhesive.
