Beraprost is commonly used for its benefits in treating primary pulmonary hypertension or pulmonary hypertension. However, in addition to these benefits, this drug can also be used for:

  • Prevent reperfusion injury due to low oxygen levels in the blood.
  • As a vasodilator to widen blood vessels and lower blood pressure.
  • Reduces pain and cold due to disorders of the peripheral blood vessels.

Beraprost Dosage

The dosage of beraprost for each individual can be different. So, always discuss it with your doctor before using this medicine, to get the right dosage. However, generally the following is the dosage of beraprost for adults:

  • For the treatment of primary pulmonary hypertension: The initial dose is 60 mcg daily in divided doses. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 180 mcg daily, in 3-4 divided doses.
  • For the treatment of ulcers, pain, and coldness due to chronic arterial occlusion: The dose is 120 mcg per day, in 3 divided doses.
  • For the treatment of peripheral arterial disease: The dose is 120 mcg per day, divided into 3 doses.

How to Use Beraprost

Follow the instructions given by your doctor and read the information on the packaging, before using beraprost. This medicine should be taken after meals, with the help of water. Take the medicine regularly at the same time every day, to get maximum effectiveness. Do not increase, decrease, or stop the dosage without a doctor’s instructions.

Beraprost Usage Precautions

  • Beraprost may increase the risk of bleeding if taken during menstruation. Discuss this with your doctor.
  • Stop treatment if serious or prolonged side effects occur.
  • Consult your doctor first before using beraprost, if you are breastfeeding, elderly, or in children.

Beraprost Side Effects

Various side effects that can arise after using beraprost are:

  • Bleeding.

Beraprost Interactions

Using beraprost together with anticoagulant drugs (such as warfarin), antiplatelet drugs (such as acetosal and ticlopidine), and fibrinolytic drugs (such as urokinase), can increase the risk of bleeding. In addition, using this drug together with drugs of the prostaglandin l2 class, can increase the blood pressure-lowering effect.

Contraindications of Beraprost

Beraprost is not recommended for consumption by pregnant women or people who are experiencing bleeding conditions.
