Joy Meaning
The word joy emerged in our language, taken from the Latin “alicer” or “alecris” in the sense of lively or animated, and refers to good humor, the pleasant feeling, which translates into inner peace, laughter, optimism, and enthusiasm.
There are people who are naturally happy, and enjoy everyday life, without needing great achievements for that feeling to emerge; although they may have moments of sadness (opposite feeling) if adversities occur. Other people are pessimistic, and rarely feel happy, seeing the bad and harmful in every event. Joy has degrees, since there are small joys; and other immense ones, that fill our soul. It is very subjective since what brings joy to some, does not to others.
Joy is experienced in short or long periods of time, according to personal and external circumstances. If it becomes a lasting state, we speak of happiness. Sometimes you can feel joy due to negative events, but this will not produce happiness for the individual, like the thief who can feel joy, if a robbery was fruitful, but it will be an emotional state, only temporary. For the Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677) joy is one of the three basic emotions, along with desire and sadness, which consists of the fulfillment of desires, which makes the person go from a lower perfection to a higher one.

In Cinema “The City of Joy” is a 1992 American film (co-produced with France and the United Kingdom), with the same title as the novel by French writer Dominique Lapierre. It is about a doctor who, in the midst of an existential crisis, travels to India, and will find in the City of Joy, a new meaning for his life.
In 2018, the Spanish drama film “Alegría Tristeza” was released, directed by Ibon Cormenzana. The plot revolves around an event that affects the father, a firefighter by profession, which changes the peaceful and happy life of a family.
